Bille tells the story of a childhood in pre-war Latvia in the late 1930s. Treated as worthless by her relatives, the girl dreams of breaking out of poverty and the grip of inferiority. Based on the autobiographical book by Vizma Belševica, it is Bille’s personal path towards growth.
